New Orleans Saints vs Minnesota Vikings

The revenge-minded New Orleans Saints go for their sixth straight win when they visit the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football. The must-see matchup from U.S. Bank Stadium kicks off at 8:20 p.m. ET. The Saints (5-1) are still smarting from last year’s 29-24 playoff loss, when Stefon Diggs’ miracle touchdown catch on the last play canceled New Orleans’ trip to the NFC Championship Game. The Vikings (4-2-1) enter on a three-game winning streak and will be no easy out, as they’re 26-11 at home under head coach Mike Zimmer. Minnesota opened as a 2.5-point favorite, but the game is a pick’em in the latest Saints vs. Vikings odds, which means neither team is favored. The over-under for total points scored is 53, up from an open of 52. Before you make any Saints vs. Vikings picks for Sunday Night Football, listen to what SuperContest guru R.J. White says.

CBS Sports’ NFL editor, White has cashed huge in the SuperContest — the world’s most prestigious handicapping competition — twice in the past three years. Anyone who followed his NFL plays on SportsLine last season won nearly $2,000.

Saints vs Vikings Sunday Night Football 2018 Game

And he has an eerie feel for the Vikings: In his last 24 spread picks involving Minnesota, White has been right 19 times — a stunning 79 percent cash rate. Anyone who has followed him is way, way up.

White knows the Saints look unstoppable with quarterback Drew Brees (15 TDs, 0 turnovers) throwing to wide receiver Michael Thomas (58 catches, 588 yards, 4 TDs) and do-it-all running back Alvin Kamara (121 yards from scrimmage per game). While their offense remains elite, averaging 34 points per game, their defense has significantly improved.

Over the last three games, New Orleans has allowed an average of 20 points per game. The Saints have held the Browns (18), Giants (18), and Redskins (19) under 20 points this season. The team isn’t standing pat either, landing corner Eli Apple last week from the tanking Giants.

But just because the Saints are rolling doesn’t mean they’ll go into Minnesota and beat a Vikings team that’s more explosive than the one they lost to in the playoffs.

New quarterback Kirk Cousins has proven to be a major upgrade from Keenum: He’s completing 70 percent of his throws while averaging 309 passing yards per game with 14 TDs against three INTs. Wideout Adam Thielen leads the NFL in catches (67) and yards (822), and he ranks seventh in TD grabs (5).

Minnesota’s defense remains well above-average and nearly impenetrable against the run. The Vikings allow 3.7 yards per carry (fourth lowest). The last two weeks, Minnesota held both the Cardinals and Jets to 17 points. Minnesota has 21 sacks this season, good for fourth in the NFL, and is eighth with eight forced fumbles.

We can tell you White is leaning Over the total, but his much stronger play is on the spread. He’s unearthed an eye-popping stat that has him backing one side with confidence. He’s sharing what it is, and who to back, only at SportsLine.

From NFL.com:

A few observations from the Jets’ 37-17 loss to the Vikings:

A) New York has to cool it with the Jekyll-and-Hyde approach to running the football. Sometimes the Jets’ ground game reminds me of Tweety Bird on the good stuff; sometimes it just reminds me of Tweety Bird.
B) That Sam Darnold pick with 8:41 to go put the nail in the coffin.
C) Hard to live with backup receivers dropping passes.
D) Those monochrome green jerseys don’t bother me much, at least not in this uni matchup.
E) Still a firm believer in Darnold, who did a whole lot of scratching and clawing Sunday.

Jets-Bears Line Move, Public Betting Action
The line has moved from -7 to -8 with some books like Sportsbook.com holding at -7.5. Better than 75% of the spread action was on Chicago.

Jets-Bears Betting Trends, Preview

From Rich Cimini of ESPN: “Jets final injury report: They changed Spencer Long’s designation from doubtful to questionable. It means they still have hope he can play, but it’s rare under Todd Bowles for a player who didn’t practice all week to play in the game. I expect the other questionables to play. There’s a good chance they will sign RB De’Angelo Henderson from the practice squad.”

The Jets, already without leading receiver Quincy Enunwa, could also be down Robby Anderson against the Bears on Sunday.

Interestingly enough, the line on this game does not take into account the injuries as there is only a slight 1-point overlay based on the NFL Betting Power Ratings.

If you don’t have cable, you can still watch the NFL games for free that are airing locally on CBS and Fox, plus the “Sunday Night Football” game, which is broadcast nationally on NBC. All you need to do for access to these channels is hook up your TV to a digital antenna. A basic digital TV antenna costs around $25, and in most of the country that’s all you need to do to watch over-the-air networks, including Fox, CBS, PBS, NBC, and ABC — totally for free.

Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, the Lions are favored at home, as they are getting odds of -3 points against Seattle. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 48.5 points. The public betting for this game currently has 62 percent going on the Seahawks on the road. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NFL Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.

Lions improving on offense

The Detroit Lions are coming off a 32-21 win over the Dolphins at Miami last weekend to move to 3-3 on the year. The Lions have won three of their last four and are now 5-1 against the spread and 5-1 with the over. They have covered the spread in five straight.

Detroit is putting up 26.2 points and 391.7 yards per game on offense this year. Their offense is getting a nice boost from the run game as of late. Last week they rushed for over 200 yards as a team. Rookie Kerryon Johnson has a pair of 100-yards games this year and has 444 yards on 69 carries on the season. Matthew Stafford has thrown for 1,602 yards and 12 touchdowns with five interceptions. Defensively, the Lions are giving up 26.3 points and 384.3 yards per game. They have one of the worst run defenses in the league, allowing 139.3 yards per game. However, the team tried to improve on that this week by trading for Damon Harrison, one of the best run stuffers in the NFL.

Seahawks rested

The Seattle Seahawks are coming off a bye last week, but they have won three of their last four prior. Seattle is 3-3 on the season, 3-2-1 against the spread and 4-2 with the under. They have covered the spread in three of their last four.

The Seahawks are strong defensively, allowing just 19.5 points and 344 yards per game. They are allowing just 223 passing yards per game. Offensively, Seattle is scoring 23.8 points per game while averaging 345.8 yards per contest. Russell Wilson has thrown for 1,308 yards and 13 touchdowns with four interceptions. He has been sacked 19 times. Chris Carson is the leading rusher with 352 yards on 78 carries.

NFL Betting Trends

Detroit

The Lions have covered the spread in six straight conference games but have failed to cover in five straight Week-8 games.

Seattle

The Seahawks are 2-6 ATS in their last eight following a win, but 5-1 ATS in their last six games in October.

Prediction:

The Lions have looked good in recent outings, but the Seahawks are healing up on defense and will be up for the challenge of taking on this Detroit offense. I don’t expect the Lions to rush for over 200 yards like they did last week, which won’t allow for such easy passing lanes. The Seahawks can exploit the Detroit run defense, which will open up some options for Russell Wilson. Seattle has won a lot of big road games and I just can’t trust the Lions quite yet.

After spending most of the week on the Panthers’ injury report, quarterback Cam Newton wasn’t listed heading into Week 8. Newton has been nursing a shoulder injury, but the issue is minor and not impactful enough to keep him out of Sunday’s contest vs. Baltimore.

Newton is quietly putting together a campaign worthy of some eyebrows. He has only thrown four interceptions up until this point, taking care of the football at one of the best rates of his career. His 65.6% completion percentage this season is the highest mark of his six-year career.

Baltimore enters Week 8 off the heels of a crushing 24-23 loss in Week 7 to Carolina’s NFC South rival, the New Orleans Saints. Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, who had not missed a PAT attempt in his career dating back to high school, missed for the first time in the final minute of the fourth quarter. It dropped the Ravens to 4-3.

Entering Sunday, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco is also playing sound, turnover-free football. Flacco, too, has only thrown for four interceptions, and 11 touchdowns — identical to Cam. Though Flacco has over 600 more passing yards (2,067) in comparison to Cam (1,427).

Pittsburgh has had a week off and is no doubt ready to get back on the field. They will look to defend their home turf on Sunday against Cleveland at 1:00 p.m. Pittsburgh are a solid favorite in this one, with an expected 8 point margin of victory.

It was all tied up at the half for Pittsburgh and Cincinnati two weeks ago, but Pittsburgh stepped up in the second half. Pittsburgh walked away with a 28-21 win over Cincinnati. Among those leading the charge for Pittsburgh was James Conner, who rushed for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Cleveland fought the good fight in their overtime contest last Sunday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of Tampa Bay by a score of 26-23. This makes it the second loss in a row for Cleveland.

Pittsburgh‘s victory lifted them to 3-2-1 while Cleveland’s defeat dropped them down to 2-4-1. The Cleveland defense got after the quarterback against Tampa Bay to the tune of six sacks, so Pittsburgh’s offensive line better have put in some good practice this past week in preparation for the match.

Broncos vs Chiefs

Broncos vs Chiefs: Behind enemy lines with Denver editor

Broncos vs Chiefs

The regular season is already almost halfway over as the Kansas City Chiefs look to host the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The AFC West division rivals met in Denver earlier this month in Week 4 when the Chiefs came out with a close 27-23 victory to improve to 4-0 on the season. Since then, a lot has changed for both teams as they get ready to face off for their second matchup.

Denver continued to go downhill as they lost four straight games before getting a much-needed victory over the Arizona Cardinals in dominant fashion. Broncos fans have turned against quarterback Case Keenum as the offense has failed to produce once again in 2018. There have also been rumors of Denver players being on the trade block the last couple of weeks signaling that the team is looking more toward the future than this season.

Broncos vs Chiefs Football Free Game

Kansas City has also seen some changes over the course of the last month. Patrick Mahomes finally threw his first interceptions and showed some signs of struggle, but has come back in each of those games looking strong as he figures out the defense. The Chiefs have also sustained numerous injuries including Justin Houston, Mitch Morse, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Tanoh Kpassagnon, and Eric Murray.

Patrick Mahomes has exceeded expectations as he leads his team against the Broncos at home on Sunday sitting on a 6-1 season record. The Chiefs, much like the Broncos, are coming off a dominant performance in primetime which means both teams are full of confidence. While Denver is clearly the underdog, the rivalry has proven to always be close no matter the record of either team.

As we get ready for this game, I wanted to get an inside look at the Denver Broncos looking at their thoughts on the upcoming game. Kansas City barely came out of Denver with a win last time when Patrick Mahomes had to carry his team to victory in the final quarter of the game. Speaking with Predominantly Orange writer Ty Walden, we discussed where we thought these two teams were ahead of Sunday. My first question was how much the dominant performance against the Cardinals would play into the matchup against the Chiefs?

TW: It was important as far as boosting the confidence of the team. They certainly needed it after losing four games in a row. I believe the mini-bye will help the team refocus on what worked and allow them to build on that confidence.

Denver’s not the only team to get a mini-bye week before taking on the Chiefs recently. The New England Patriots also had played on Thursday night the week prior to facing off against Kansas City and it seemed to help them. It’s also important to keep in mind that this will be the third time that the Broncos will face Mahomes considering Week 17 of last year.

When we look back at the last matchup between these two teams, Denver did a good job of disguising blitz packages to disrupt Mahomes. The Chiefs offense struggled after Sammy Watkins left with an injury and due to the pressure being brought by the defense. Mahomes was able to figure out the Denver defense in the second half which led to a comeback in the fourth quarter. Will Denver be able to figure something out on defense to slow down Mahomes offense again Sunday?

TW: If they can wrap him up and get him off his game, I would say yes. Denver might have a game plan from Arizona that could end up working. Pressure Mahomes. Cover the offensive weapons with the right players. Limit the Chiefs to under 30 points. And play a full 60 minutes of football. If they can do all of that, they should be able to get the win.

When it came to the Broncos offense, Denver was able to run the ball very effectively against the Chiefs defense gaining an average of 7.2 yards per carry. Most of that was due to hesitation and poor tackling for Kansas City’s defense. The Broncos have some young rookies in the backfield that have come on strong so far this season. Many of the rookies in this year’s draft class could be great additions for years to come.

Most of the issues for Denver’s offense this season has once again come at the hands of poor quarterback play. The Broncos have weapons at every level of the offense, but new addition Case Keenum has been unable to repeat what he did for the Minnesota Vikings last season that took the team to the NFC Conference Championship game.

TW: There have been mixed reviews. Most bad though. With the release of Chad Kelly, Keenum will really need to step it up. If the Broncos have a bad season, I would not be surprised if Denver looks to the draft to find their quarterback of the future.

While Kansas City is clearly ahead of the Broncos in the AFC West, both teams need a victory on Sunday to bolster their record for this season. Denver is hoping to get back on track to make a push for the West while the Chiefs are trying to hold a lead as the AFC leaders with the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers closely behind. This game could also decide what Denver elects to do the rest of the season with the trade deadline just around the corner.

TW: There have been reports that Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders are no longer options for trades. Sunday’s game will really tell what the team does for the remainder of the season.

Week 8 looks to be a great game between these two AFC West teams. Both are coming off of a dominant performance, both teams could use a win to improve on the season and rankings, and the rivalry between Denver and Kansas City has always led to some good games. The Chiefs are the better team, but the Broncos could definitely make Chiefs fans sit on the edge of their seat.

Jaguars vs Eagles

It’s a must-win scenario for the Eagles and Jaguars as they prepare for Sunday’s clash in London. Kickoff from Wembley Stadium is at 9:30 a.m. ET. Both teams are 3-4 following impressive 2017 seasons that saw Philly win the Super Bowl and Jacksonville reach the AFC title game. This year, it’s been a different story. The Eagles blew a 17-0 fourth-quarter lead in a 21-17 home loss to Carolina last week, while the Jags have been outscored 90-28 during their three-game skid. Oddsmakers list the Eagles as 3.5-point favorites, up a half-point from the opening line. The Over-Under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, has risen all week and is at 43 in the latest Eagles vs. Jaguars odds. Before you make any Eagles vs. Jaguars picks for NFL in London, see what the SportsLine Projection Model has to say.

The model, which simulates every NFL contest 10,000 times, is crushing its NFL picks for the third straight year. In a straight-up, pick’em format, SportsLine’s model went 176-80 last season and beat over 95 percent of CBS Office Pool players in 2016 and 2017, performing better than 98 percent of experts tracked by NFLPickWatch.com during that span. Additionally, it went 48-34 on A-rated picks last season, and $100 bettors who followed it the past two seasons are up nearly $4,000.

Jaguars vs Eagles Football Free Game

It went 10-4 straight up in a wild Week 7, including calling the Patriots’ huge win over the Bears, improving its record to a blistering 71-34 on the season. And when it comes to all of its top-rated picks, it is now on a strong 62-43 run. Anybody who has been following those picks is way, way up.

Now, the computer has generated a strong against-the-spread pick on Eagles vs. Jaguars that hits almost 60 percent of the time. You can only see it at SportsLine.

The model has taken into account Jacksonville’s lack of competitiveness lately, combined with the Eagles’ strong play until the fourth quarter last Sunday. Carson Wentz is playing as well as he did last year: he’s thrown nine touchdowns and no interceptions over his last four games.

Despite not being as dominant as last year, Philly’s D ranks sixth in points allowed (19.7) and should enjoy turn in a strong performance against struggling Jaguars QB Blake Bortles, who was benched for Cody Kessler last week.

But just because the Eagles have played better recently doesn’t mean they’ll cover a full field goal against a Jaguars team that has yet to play up to its talent.

Jacksonville is well-suited to stop the Eagles. The Jaguars allow an NFL-low 179.7 passing yards per game while holding QBs under a 60 percent completion rate. Houston’s Deshaun Watson mustered just 137 passing yards versus the Jags last Sunday.

Moreoever, this game will be played on grass, where the Eagles have failed to cover their last five games.

Red Sox vs Dodgers

The 2018 World Series continues on Saturday night, with the Los Angeles Dodgers hosting the Boston Red Sox for the second consecutive night in the best-of-seven series. The Dodgers won in dramatic fashion in an 18-inning Game 3 and now have a chance to even things up at two games a piece on Saturday. As such, baseball’s postseason cannot end until at least Sunday.

Nathan Eovaldi was originally expected to start for Boston. He pitched in relief again in Game 3, the third time in three games this series, which rules him out. Instead, the Red Sox figure to roll with Drew Pomeranz or Chris Sale on short rest. They were the only pitchers to not throw in Game 3. Rich Hill is expected to go for the Dodgers. He posted a 3.66 ERA during the year. He’s permitted three runs in 10-plus postseason innings.

Red Sox: The Red Sox can move one win away from a championship if they get the victory here. The key could be who the Red Sox opt to start — Pomeranz or Sale. The latter would be the more aggressive play, but the Red Sox can afford to play it safe knowing they’ll be going back to Boston with a chance to win it all if need be.

Dodgers: It’s simple: a win makes it a best-of-three series. A loss and the Dodgers will be facing elimination the rest of the way.

We have the Red Sox winning the World Series. That established, we’re going to pick the Dodgers because we don’t trust Pomeranz and we aren’t sure we trust short-rest Sale given his velocity issues since coming back from the DL.
